The best of all worlds is a resort with adjoining hotel rooms or a condo with a kitchen and laundry. There are resorts and resort condos that have children's programs with crafts, dance and music to introduce your children to the Hawaiian culture.
The Hyatt Resorts offer guaranteed adjoining rooms for adults with children. The Hilton on the Big Island and Oahu will guarantee adjoining rooms for an additional fee. There are great pools and activities for children. No kitchens.
Oahu:
The Hilton Hawaiian Village on Oahu offers one and two bedroom units as well as hotel rooms.
For a great three star condo I recommend the Waikiki Sunset.
For budget travelers the Waikiki Wave has family style rooms and it is located at the International Marketplace.
Maui:
Maui has many oceanfront resorts and condos that have great features for families. Kaanapali Shores is my first suggestion, it ofers one and two bedroom units and resort amenities. There is also a children's program called Camp Kaanapali.
The Kaanapali Beach Club is also a great choice. The pools are ideal and the rooms are all two room suites with partial kitchens. A really nice choice.
Kauai:
The poipu Beach region has the best swimming beaches. The Hyatt Poipu is on a beach that is OK for older children but rough for small children. The Sheraton is on Poipu Beach, a better choice for young children. Next to the Sheraton is Kiahuna Plantation which offers one and two bedroom units. I like the pools at the Marriott. For modern condos check out the Waipouli Beach.
Big Island
The Hilton Waikoloa Resort offers a dolphin show where visitors and guests are allowed to enter a lottery to join the dolphins in their pond playground on the shores of the resort.
My favorite three star is in Kona, the Keauhou Beach Hotel is on a great cove beach with wonderful snorkeling.
For visitors to Volcanoes National Park your best choice is the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel.
