Waikoloa and the Kohala Coast
There are 6 elegant resorts in the Waikoloa region. Each resort has a unique design and culture. The Fairmont is tucked away on a quiet cove, Four Seasons is on one of the best ocean beaches, Hilton and Marriott are near the Kings Shops, Mauna Kea and Hapuna share two great beaches and two great golf courses. Stay and play packages are available for all.
Four Seasons Hualalai
The Four Seasons is developed on the crest of the Hualalei Crater. The Hualalai Course is a Jack Nicklaus signature course. Hualalai Golf Course surrounds the Four Seasons Resort.
Hapuna Beach Resort
The Hapuna Golf Course is an 18-hole championship golf course designed to fit in the natural contours of the land 700 feet above sea level on the Kohala Coast.
Mauna Kea Hotel
Golf at the Mauna Kea Resort has been updated along with the extensive remodel just completed on the resort. Without changing the original design the course is re-planted with Tifeagle Bermuda grass.
Mauna Lani Hotel
The fairways are Bermuda grass and the rough is thick and lined by the natural rough. Pahoehoe lava and A'A lava rock should be avoided.
Fairmont Orchid
The Mauna Lani North Course
is adjacent to the Fairmont Orchid. Built over the massive lava flow that makes up the Kohala Coast of the Big Island. Water hazards come into play and several holes.
The Waikoloa Marriott
Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., the Beach Course is built into the lava flows along Anaeho'omalu Bay. The oceanfront par-five on the 502-yard, twelfth hole.
The Waikoloa Kings Course
A unique Scottish-links layout offers pot bunkers, rolling fairways multiple tee placements and lava outcroppings.
Kona Town and Keauhou
Kona is a small local town with lots of condos and a couple of 3 and 4 star hotels. The golf courses in Kona are challenging for players of all ages. I enjoy the Kona region. There are no long white sand beaches but the town is great for shopping and dining out. Kona and Keauhou are good choices if you are looking for a golf vacation for a fantastic price.
Call me for more information about the Big Island. The Big Island was my home for 5 years. I know the wind, weather, roads, parks, ocean, national parks, and some hidden Big Island sights that you can easily visit. There are great budget condos with golf courses that are not affiliated with a resort. The Big Island has some great tee fees in the afternoon if you don't mind playing in the wind.
Kona Country Club Mountain Course
Kona Country Club at Keauhou Bay offers nu merous golfing experiences. Golfers find themselves playing over lava tube blowholes, look over onto the Pacific Ocean or admire ancient Hawaiian archeological sites. Amazing ocean views from every hole!
